Greensboro College/Rockingham Community College Partnership:

BS/BA Degree and Licensure in Elementary Education

What is the GC/RCC Partnership?

A collaborative program offered by Greensboro College and Rockingham Community College for students desiring a Greensboro College bachelor’s degree and licensure in Elementary Education with courses to be taken on the Rockingham Community College campus.

What are the requirements for admission?

  • an A.A. degree or the equivalent
  • a 2.5 gpa
  • a desire to teach elementary school.

When and where are courses offered?

All courses for the Elementary major are offered on the RCC campus. At least four courses are offered each semester. Course Rotation

What is the cost?

Tuition for full time students (12 hours) is the same as tuition at state universities - $3600.00.  NC residents attending full-time are eligible to receive the North Carolina Legislative Grant of $975 per semester, making the tuition $2625.  Tuition for part-time students is $300.00 per credit hour.

Are there any additional fees?

A one time application fee of $35.00. An activities/registration fee of $50 every fall or spring semester. A registration fee of $20 for each summer session. A parking fee of $25 per year, which allows you to park on both the RCC and GC campuses. A student teaching fee of $125.00.

Is a payment plan available?

Yes. A low-cost, flexible plan for spreading the semester’s cost over four months is available through the ECSI Tuition Payment Plan (http://www.ecsi.net). No interest or finance charges are levied, but there is an application fee of $30 per semester.

Can I receive financial aid?

Greensboro College encourages all students to file for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form is available through any college financial aid office. Be sure to submit the Greensboro College Code: 002930. Processing time is four weeks – apply right away so that your financial aid will be here in time.

In addition, the North Carolina Legislative Tuition Grant ($975 per semester) is available for all North Carolina residents who are full-time students and seeking their first degree. However, the NCLTG will not apply if you already have two A.A. degrees. Check with the Greensboro College Financial Aid Office (1-800-346-8226 x217) for additional financial aid information.

How do I apply?

You can apply online or request an application packet from the Greensboro College School of Professional & Graduate Studies (336-272-7102 x284). A complete application consists of:

  • the completed application form
  • official transcripts for any and all colleges previously attended
  • a recommendation
  • a $35 application fee.

All materials should be submitted to Professional and Graduate Studies, Greensboro College, 815 West Market Street, Greensboro, NC, 27401.

When will I get a decision on admission?

An admission decision usually takes only two weeks once a complete application is received. You will receive an acceptance letter with a list of course offerings, a trial registration form, and other important information.

Once I am admitted, how do I register for classes?

You will schedule an appointment with a Professional and Graduate Studies advisor at GC to discuss course selection and fill out a registration form. A book-buying session will be held at Greensboro College the week before classes begin at which time you can purchase your books and have your Student Identification Card made. Once you are accepted you may contact the Financial Aid Office.

What if I want to take an RCC course in addition to my Greensboro College courses?

This is referred to as “dual enrollment” and is possible with the approval of the designated RCC official, your GC faculty advisor, and the GC Registrar. Contact the GC Registrar’s Office for specific information. Remember that only 72 hours of community college credit will transfer to a four-year institution.

How do I drop or add a course?

The official drop/add period is during the first week of class. You can call or e-mail the Greensboro College Office of Professional and Graduate Studies (336-272-7102 x284 or adults@greensborocollege.edu) and we will initiate the paperwork.

You may not add a course after the official drop/add period. If you wish to drop a course after the official drop/add period but before the DROP deadline, call the GC Office of Professional and Graduate Studies. Remember that dropping a course is not the same as withdrawal from school. See Calendar of Important Dates.

What do I do if I have to withdraw from school?

To drop all of your courses and withdraw completely for the semester, contact the GC School of Professional & Graduate Studies to initiate the paperwork. Do not simply stop going to class and assume the professor will remove you from the class role. This is very important since failure to withdraw properly could result in severe academic and financial penalties.

Must I maintain a certain gpa?

Yes, you must maintain a 2.5 gpa.

What if I have a question about my tuition bill?

Call Greensboro College Student Accounts (336-272-7102 x205).

If I have an A.A. degree from RCC, do I still have to satisfy the General Education requirements at Greensboro College?

Yes. In addition to the Elementary Education major requirements, you will need to fulfill the Greensboro College degree requirements.  Though you will have taken most of these courses for your A.A., consult the GC Catalog for a listing of the specific courses that fulfill these General Education requirements.  If you have additional questions, you may contact the Professional & Graduate Studies Office at Greensboro College.

What Greensboro College campus facilities am I eligible to use?

You are eligible to use all campus facilities.  These include Career Services, Counseling Services, the Royce Reynolds Family Student Life Center, the James Addison Jones Library, the Academic Computing Center, and the Office of Disability Services.
