Graduation Policies & Dates

There are three graduation dates each year.

  1. August 31 is the official date of graduation for students who complete their degree requirements during the summer.
  2. December 31 is the official date of graduation for students who complete their degree requirements during the fall semester.
  3. Sunday, May 9, 2010 is the official date of graduation for students who complete their degree requirements during spring 2010.

Greensboro College celebrates graduation for all three groups of students once a year during the May Commencement Weekend. Commencement Weekend consists of Baccalaureate (also referred to as Cap and Gown) on Saturday night, as well as the actual Commencement ceremony on Sunday morning. All graduates and their families are invited to a celebratory lunch after Commencement Exercises.

Students who complete their degree requirements in August or December of the year before Commencement Weekend are eligible to participate. (ex: Students who finish in August and December 2009 will participate in May 2010 Commencement and are part of the Class of 2010.)

Students who complete their degree requirements in August or December after Commencement Weekend are eligible to participate the following year. (ex: Students who finish in August and December 2010 will participate in May 2011 Commencement and are part of the Class of 2011.)

All graduates are expected to participate in May Commencement Weekend. Any student who encounters conflicts and will not participate must notify the Registrar's Office by April 15, prior to Commencement Weekend. Diplomas are mailed to those students by certified mail after graduation weekend.

Class mailings about special events, such as Senior Investiture and Senior Salute, are sent out by various offices on campus throughout the year. It is especially crucial for a prospective graduate to keep their mailing address up-to-date with the College so they receive those mailings. Any change of address, local or permanent, should be reported to the Registrar’s Office.
